The calm before the storm?

IPEDS just released data from Fall 2023 enrollment surveys, and there are some interesting trends.

Here’s a snapshot of the high level data. It’s interesting to see what appears to be a post-COVID rebound happening slowly for undergrads. That’s to be expected (the slow part, I mean). It should be obvious, but a very bad or a very good year for new students takes its time working its way out of your system, and it can be seen moving through the pipeline (the pig in the snake metaphor.) Meanwhile, graduate enrollment continues to chug along, slowly increasing every year.

The data here are filterable by ethnicity, and you’ll probably notice some interesting patterns there, too. Here is the interactive visualization of the IPEDS data, and a simple click will get you what you want.

If you want more or custom views (by state, region, control, Carnegie type, sector, etc.), I’m happy to talk.
